How to Remove Your Information from Our Search Results
Please be advised that public records may be requested by the general public from the responsible office or repository. If you would like to obtain copies of or request that these public records be redacted from public view, you must contact the office responsible for maintaining the records directly. The method of submitting such a request varies according to the relevant state or local government offices, so you must check with them directly.
SexOffender.com does not create or maintain any public records that are made available through the Site, and does not have direct control over them, so please be advised of this fact. If you find that records containing your name are false, incorrect or contain defamatory information, whether due to a previous expungement or otherwise, please contact our Data Management team.
You may choose to take advantage of our opt-out policy, which is provided as a courtesy service. If you choose to opt-out of allowing your personal information available to the public, we will remove such details as your name, address and phone number, as they appear on this site. In order to take advantage of this service, you must submit a written request to our Data Opt-Out Department; details are found below.
When submitting a request to remove your information from our website, we must be able to first confirm your identity to locate and remove it from our databases. This means that you are required to submit an official proof of identity with all opt-out request forms you may submit to our Data Opt-Out Department. Acceptable forms of identification include a state-issued I.D. or driver’s license. Providing your identification ensures we are removing the correct information from our databases. However, you should be sure to mark out your photo and I.D. or driver’s license number before sending us a copy of these forms of identification.
Any concern you may have about sending us this information is fully understood, and we want to ensure you that we conduct ourselves according to very strict security guidelines. This means that the identification and other information you submit to us during the data opt-out request process is never used for any purposes other than removing the requested information from our databases. We do not share, sell or otherwise use this information for marketing purposes in any way.
To submit a data opt-out request, please fill out all the necessary information on our Data Opt-Out Request Form, found here: Contact us.
You should include any of the following reasons for requesting your data to be removed from our databases, as they apply to your situation:
- If you are a local, state or federal law enforcement or other public officer and this position causes you to be subject to threats of death or bodily harm;
- If you have been an identity theft victim;
- If you are for any reason at risk of physical harm;
- If you can provide evidence the record in question has been expunged or is otherwise incorrect;
If you can also provide further information about the records you wish to be removed or withheld from public viewing, this can only help us in locating and removing it in a timely manner. Details such as the location of the information – provided as a link to a website – greatly aid in our attempts to remove your data from our website.
You can either fax your Data Opt-Out Request, in addition to your proof of I.D. and copies of any applicable court documents, to 1-617-507-0410. Please note this number is used ONLY for data opt-out requests. Please do not send any customer service-related issues to this number.
If you wish to mail your request form, I.D. and copies of documents, you can send them to:
Data Opt-Out Department
P.O. Box 990043
Boston, MA 02199
You should allow up to 30 days to process your Data Opt-Out Request.
NOTE: Incomplete requests that do not include vital information such as proof of identity, name, address and date of birth may not be processed. Your Data Opt-Out request cannot be processed or submitted via phone or email.
Though most information requested and successfully removed from our databases is done so permanently, we cannot guarantee it will not be made available again in the future. This is because we are not in direct control of the public records accessed in our databases, and cannot determine the information distributed or obtained from official government offices and other third-party sources of information. This is why we highly suggest that you contact the responsible office directly to request a removal or correction of the information in addition to submitting your Data Opt-Out Request.
Please be advised that your Data Opt-Out Request does not affect information made available from third-party websites, and we do not control what other online information vendors display to the public.
